It looks like Disney decided that Harmonix and MTV wouldn’t be allowed to monopolize the multiple instrument video game experience. To make up for the the push to the side that both the Nintendo Wii and DS received when Rockband came out, Disney is releasing what they call “Ultimate Band” which is in development with Fall Line Studios currently. While Rockband provides an awesome gaming experience, “Ultimate Band” looks to offer a no peripherals solution for the same type of gaming experience. Most people seem to be concerned with previous Disney titles coming across as kid only; however the styling from the screen shots show “Ultimate Band” in a better light.
The only issue I see is the lame attempt to capitalize on the whole “band” title. The advertising for Rockband was so atrocious that Disney could simply put more money into advertising and named it something better (don’t ask me what). I really have faith that Disney won’t mess this up, as it’s definitely going to be a gold mine for them. I’m already in line waiting for it to be released.
On the Wii you’ll be using the Wii-mote a ‘chuck to play the different instruments. The DS version will rely on the screen, but will also allow you to write your own music. Sounds like Disney may have a Rockband Killer. All they’d have to do is actually release full albums like Harmonix has failed to deliver.
