It hurt to see the walls crumble around HD-DVD last month. With Toshiba calling it quits this week, I feel almost as bad as I did when the iPhone price drop happened. Although I’m not a huge fan of DVD’s, I had a chance to pick up the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player for relatively cheap and took advantage of it. For $180 I managed to snag the HD-DVD player with King Kong included, Transformers, Batman Begins, 5 mail away movies, and Heroes Season 1 Box Set. I thought it was a good deal, so I bought 2 and sold one, bringing my final price down to around $50.
While you won’t get everything I just mentioned, the price of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player will be dropping to $49.99 relatively soon. Not an awful price for a high definition player. But WHY WOULD ANYONE BUY HARDWARE FOR A DEAD FORMAT? It doesn’t make any sense to me. If anything, Microsoft should send every unsold unit to the CEO of Toshiba’s house as a “thank you” for giving up the fight.
If you’re foolish enough to buy this because of the cheap price, I’ve got a laser disc player and a bridge in Florida I’d like to sell, so please feel free to email me.
