It looks like Harmonix was just testing how far they could push us this month with some of the past weeks DLC. But this week may just make up for the whole things. Although we’re not adding any new artists to Rockband this week; these songs are from three great bands and aren’t some random unpopular song they released.

  • Garbage – Why Do You Love Me (160 points/$2)
  • Weezer – El Scorcho (160 points/$2)
  • Stone Temple Pilots – Sex Type Thing (160 points/$2)

This will be the second song by Garbage, and third by Weezer and Stone Temple Pilots in Rockband, with one being the original game track. El Scorcho follows the path of My Name Is Jonas and Buddy Holly with the simplistic drum beats, allowing most people to beat it on Expert with little difficulty. Sex Type Thing is another STP song that I didn’t know the name of but could sing every word when I loaded it up. It really has a good 90’s feel to it.”Why Do You Love Me” is probably the least well known on this list, but is still a really fun song to get your female singer involved a bit more.

I’m going to start rating each week from now on.

Future Rockband Song Line-up Revealed?

Scorehero member laconic posted on their forums a sizeable list of songs that he found within a .bin file from “(Arguable) Punk Pack 02″. The list does include all the songs that have been released so far, but unfortunately without Harmonix confirming this information, there’s no guarantee. While the original list didn’t include any artist names, Scott from Joystiq put together a nice neat list assuming the original artist of each band would be the version they released.

I find the list disappointing considering that most of these bands have existing songs already on the game. However, the possibility that “Still Alive” is actually the Portal song and the two The Who songs are exciting to see. Harmonix did promise full albums from bands when they were launching the game. Having felt the greedy swipe from XBLA Arcade before, I wholeheartedly expect to see the Nirvana songs on that list being sold individually and then finally as a complete cd for a cheaper price after everyone has bought the packs.

Take a look at the list after the break

Ok, so this post is a little late, SORRY. But what’s more important is that there are three new songs for you and your band to rock out to this week! Oh, wait, I apologize. I must have been reading my song wish list, because the three songs that the Harmonix crew has decided to unload on us this week are by far the worst batch released to date. Here goes:

  • B-52’s – Roam (160 points/$2)
  • Faith No More – We Care A Lot (160 points/$2)
  • KISS – Calling Dr. Love (160 points/$2)

Let’s start at the worst and work our way up. Faith No More has the song Epic on the game itself and it should have been left that way. I’ve been playing the song Epic with people and barely any of them recognize it for more than being on some song compilation being sold on TV. I can’t even fathom that this band would have enough fans to merit a second song release. The next two song’s stand fairly hand and hand. The B-52’s have two popular songs that I’ve ever heard: Rock Lobster and Love Shack. The fact that they decided to skip over those and start with Roam which isn’t a bad song, but let’s face it, few of you or your parents know the words to this song. With KISS in mind, most of there songs give me the same feelings a Nine Inch Nails song does, which is a feeling that all the songs are identical. Calling Dr. Love is just like all there other songs, except we don’t all know the words.

It’s confusing to see that Harmonix has decided to not release a bands popular song first and then trickle this junk down in a  package. There’s always last week I guess?

If you’re reading a console video game blog and you’re still not sure what Rockband is, your either completely out of the loop or you only own a Nintendo Wii and are in denial. Rockband offers you and your three friends the chance to rock out on guitar, bass, drums, and you can even sing. By far the best part about the game itself is its ever increasing library of downloadable songs. Each week you can expect to have access to at least three new songs and this week is no exception.

  • Smashing Pumpkins – Siva (160 points / $2)
  • Rush – Working Man* (160 points / $2)
  • Coheed and Cambria – Ten Speed (Of God’s Blood and Burial)* (160 points / $2)

Console Games Article 1 - 250 words

What’s truly unfortunate is that I didn’t put those asterisk their just to look cool. Every time you see that never positive symbol, you’ll unfortunately be spending your hard earned gig money on a cover song. While you learn to live with some of the cover songs they offer, what is baffling is the asterisk next to the Coheed and Cambria song. How could they possibly offer up a downloadable cover song from a band that has one of their actual songs already on the initial game disc. Hopefully the truth is that there was not a usable master copy and it’s not that Harmonix got cheap.

While each person is entitled to their own opinion in music, it’s pretty safe to say that this is a week offering.
