blast works

Fans of 2D shooting and war games have reason to rejoice. Wii brings you a new power puffed horizontal shooting game, called the Blastworks depot. You will surely have a blast playing this game. But do not put yourself off supposing this to be just another monotonous 2D shooting game; for its USP lies in the fact that there are far more creative visuals and features added to it.

As go on with the game you will find 15 difficulty levels. And do not think that they are too easy to cross. It will surely test your reflex and alertness of your mind. After clearing these 15 levels, you can create much more difficult and creative levels of your own with the editor feature. Believe me, tackling the editor is going to be tough yet fun, as you bring in as many enemies, obstacles etc you like. You also have the option to choose from some user created editor levels from Blastworksdepot.com.

The game can be played in multiplayer format with 4 persons. But it is best played in the single mode. Another good thing about it is that, as you go on shooting and demolishing the enemies and obstacles they start getting added to your own ship, thus acting as your added weapon or defending shield against damages. Is not it unique and fun? However, there are a few setbacks also, for instance the graphics could have been better and the console is not well compatible to multiplayer mode. Even then, at $ 40, it is sure to appeal to a people who like playing 2D games.

Wii Homebrew Scene Explodes

Warlords for the Wii would be awesome It’s always interesting to see that hype and community that springs up whenever a gaming console has been hacked. We’re not talking about modding the Wii to play copied games. We’re talking about putting all the useless junk that deserves to be on an old computer onto your Wii for who knows what.

Over at Joystiq they provided this list of homebrewed software available for the Wii at this point:

What I find interesting is that three of these are already included on the Wii in one form or another. The only really new addition is Linux for the Wii.

While I understand that Linux is a great operating system, I have never grasped why people insisted on porting it onto a video game platform. After reading up on how the Wii could interface with it, I finally grasp the potential it brings to the table.

While we aren’t quite a resource for the video gaming community to reference yet, let’s hear what you would want to see from Wii Homebrew.

Here’s my list:

  • WiiPaint – Taking Mario Paint to a whole new level
  • Warlords – The old Atari game, but using the Wii-mote instead of the paddle
